INTERNATIONAL DAY OF EDUCATION 2025
Why celebrate International Day of Education?

AI and Education: Preserving human agency in a world of automation
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed January 24 as the International Day of Education in December 2018. The first celebration was in 2019.

- To promote the right to education for all.
- To encourage governments to prioritize education in policy and practice.
What it celebrates:
- The role of education in creating sustainable and resilient societies.
- The importance of education for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- The right to education as a human right.
What it calls for:
- Inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
- Lifelong learning opportunities for all.
- Access to education for all, including technical and vocational training.
This Friday, January 24, 2025, the world is celebrating the seventh International Day of Education with the theme: “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation.” This theme focuses on how education can help people understand, adapt to, and shape the rapid changes brought by artificial intelligence and technology.
As computer and AI-driven systems become more sophisticated, the boundaries between human intention and machine-driven action often blur. This raises critical questions about how to preserve, redefine, and, ideally, elevate human agency in an age of technological acceleration.
AND WE AS CAROVANA FRATERNITY…
We join hands in marking this day of celebrating our educational system, which has continued to foster and generate people who are resilient, passionate, and purpose-driven—individuals who are ready to be role models to the current society. Both formally and informally, we will educate.
My dear learners, the pursuit of knowledge is the beginning of purpose in life. As we celebrate this day, may we continue making efforts on personal growth and taking steps toward meaningful contributions to the world. Feel the power of education, embrace curiosity, value resilience, and empathize with different communities.
My learned friends, education isn’t about filling minds with lots of information. It’s about drawing out everyone’s inner potential, talents, abilities, and capabilities as inspired by our Kenyan CBC curriculum. Education is about nurturing creativity, innovation, and unique qualities and enabling every learner to contribute meaningfully to the world.
Let this day inspire you to always dream big, value yourself, and stay committed to all your goals. Always keep in mind that education is a lifelong journey. May you never stop believing in the power of education.
